The Center for Youth Development and Adult Education is based in Lugufu refugee camp in Tanzania. With a volunteer staff of twenty-four, their current projects include:
  1. Language Programs: Teaching English, French, Swahili, and Espiranto in afternoon sessions within a local school. The programs are for all ages and the classes have different levels. Some work within translation and others on basic literacy.
  2. Youth Programs: RESPECT pen-pals program has thirty students and RESPECT university has 28. Five peer educators work in collaboration with WTE for HIV/AIDS education, working on an average of three outreach projects each week. Such sensitizations include video shows, visiting churches and schools, seminars, and the creation of a small resource center. Sports education is also used within this HIV/AIDS campaign.
  3. Adult Education: Literacy programs and vocational trainings are based for the adult population. Vocational projects include: sewing, knitting, and animal husbandry.
  4. Vulnerable Assistance Program: In collaboration with WTE, CELA pays secondary fees for thirty orphans. In addition, psycho-social help is provided for both parents and children.
